Synopsis and Plot Summary
The plot follows the story of Wu Geng, a human prince who has fallen from grace. He currently has to go through the trials of losing his family and becoming a slave in a bottom mining camp.
Despite these difficulties, he inherited the will of the previous king; he carries a deep hatred for the destruction of the country and its people.
To improve himself, Wu Geng follows his grandfather and life mentor, Fu Xi, to the hidden village of Shen Yin for training. Overcoming various difficulties and challenges with an indomitable spirit, he embarks on a path of revenge and the pursuit of freedom.
In the end, he formed a powerful anti-heaven army and went to the Limitless Domain, ending the long-standing struggle against slavery.
Burning Flames Chinese Drama Review
Adapted from the manhua “Wu Geng Ji” (武庚纪) by Zheng Jian He (郑健和) and Deng Zhi Hui (邓志辉), IQIYI’s “Burning Flames” is a story of revenge, set in a fictional world where humans and mortals live. The devil is at war with God.
The plot is a typical xianxia popcorn webnovel. If you like it, you’ll love it, if you don’t you’ll hate it.
Unlike the Gods in most shows who were supposed to be pious and act benevolent, this script depicted a different race of immortals. Their kings were cruel and treated humans like slaves; until King Xin declared war against them.
The script largely revolves around the male protagonist, Wu Geng and the motley group of friends he makes on his journey for revenge.
Ren Jia Lun fleshes out this diverse ensemble cast with an ease that clearly comes from years of acting history.
The characters are divided into several sects and sub categories; it took a while to get used to them and their powers.
But once you get to know them well, you can’t help but follow them on their respective journeys as they prepare to fight the evil Immortal King.
The make-up and costumes are good, similar and not much of a deviation from the manhwa. The two main actors did their jobs well. The acting and chemistry between Ren Jia Lun and Xing Fei is clearly visible here.
The plot also doesn’t change much from the source material, so again if you really like popcorn xianxia novels, you’ll like this.
At ep13 currently, it gets better as time goes on and 1 ep a day, 7 days a week means you don’t have to wait long for the show to finish airing. The editing and cutting is very aggressive, similar to manhwa.
There were almost no creative “changes” made for the sake of adapting it to a TV show, so again if you don’t like that kind of genre you’re going to hate it, otherwise it’s very good.
